For 29 years, Kitchen Dog Theater has provided an artistic home for some of the best talents in Dallas. KDT consistently offers local artists the opportunity to take on challenging roles, make bold choices in direction or design, and wrestle with the big questions in both classics and new works. Now, join Kitchen Dog Theater on November 23rd for the mesmerizing production of Queen of Basel!
It’s Art Basel, Miami’s weeklong party for the rich and famous, where real estate heiress Julie reigns over the blowout her mogul father is throwing at his South Beach hotel. But after tangling with her father and a run-in with a tray of cocktails, Julie plots her next move in the hotel’s barely used storage kitchen. Her companions are Christine, a cocktail waitress who recently fled violence in Venezuela, and Christine’s fiancé John, an Uber driver with ambitions.
This explosive elixir of power, class, and race within the Latinx community is a bold and contemporary take on Strindberg’s Miss Julie by vibrant rising voice Hilary Bettis (The Americans).
Kitchen Dog Theater is proud to be at the forefront of what it hopes will be a new era of home-grown, established, mid-sized theaters that have a permanent home and control of their destiny, helping further cement Dallas’ reputation as a true city of the arts. KDT celebrates local talent and creates significant artistic opportunities for Dallas actors, designers, and technicians.
In its 29-year history, KDT has staged 152 productions and received over 400 awards from various publications, including numerous “Best Theater Company” nods. KDT is one of only two theaters in Texas to receive National Endowment for the Arts “Art Works” Awards in the previous six consecutive years.
